How to become a personal trainer

If you’ve ever considered becoming a personal trainer, now is as good of a time as any to get started. You can help others improve their lives by teaching healthy habits and coaching them on a path to physical and mental fitness. At Bmorefitbody POSSE, we can help you learn how to become a personal trainer so you can gain the skills and certification necessary to start a fulfilling and satisfying career.

Meet eligibility requirements

Most programs are going to have minimum requirements that must be met for enrollment. First, programs require that you have either a high school diploma or a GED. Then, you must get certified in CPR and how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED). These are necessary as you never know when a client of yours might have a health issue during a workout.

Research programs and choose

Get to know the different available programs. Whether you’re planning on attending a program in person or online, you should do your research to find the best program for you. All programs will teach you many of the same principles but teaching styles will be different. Look into each program thoroughly to learn more about its structure and how you’ll progress through it.

Once you find the program that’s right for you, go ahead and enroll. One of the aspects you might want to consider when enrolling is the cost of the program. Personal trainer programs are going to vary in price based on the depth and breadth of the program as well as whether you’re going to be in class or online. Packages will range from $199 up to $1,999. Choose the best fit for you and get started.

Take your certification exam and choose your specialty

After you’ve completed your course, you need to take your certification exam. You’ll receive all the preparation that you need during your program. The exam will test your knowledge in the field of personal training as far as theory and practical knowledge. Once you pass the test, you’ll be ready to get started in your career.

It’s important to understand that not every personal trainer does the same job. You can choose the area where you’d like to work. Your specialty can be within athletics, a gym, or nutrition. Whichever area you’d like to practice, choose that field and run with it. Keep in mind that you can always change your course if you’d like to pursue a different avenue.

Maintain your certification

The world of health and fitness is always changing. Because of this, it’s important that you maintain your certification with continuing education credits. This process is designed to make sure that you’re staying current with industry standards, techniques, safety, and even the legal aspects of the job. This not only ensures that every trainer has current knowledge in the business but is also serious about the work they do with their clients.
