5 family fitness training ideas

Getting fit as a family makes it easier to stay in shape as an adult. It’s easy to let your fitness levels fall by the wayside when you have kids because they don’t do much as babies. However, you’ll quickly find that they’re difficult to keep up with once they start walking and running. You can help them learn good habits and improve your overall health by working together with family fitness training. While your kids might not be old enough to hit the gym and lift weights with you, our team at Bmorefitbody POSSE can provide you with things to do around the house to instill good habits.

Go for a walk

It doesn’t take much to burn calories and get exercise, so walking is a great way to get out of the house and burn some calories. Your kids can burn energy while exploring their environment, and you can walk off some of your dinner. Taking the family for a walk is a great way to take time to reflect on the day and talk with your kids. If you have little ones who don’t walk yet, get a stroller you can push them in because they’ll love to go along for the ride.

Play at the playground

Playgrounds are a great place for parents to get in a brief exercise while spending time with kids. There are plenty of places to do push-ups, sit-ups, pull-ups, stair steppers, and much more. They probably won’t realize it, but your kids are getting quite a workout as well by climbing ladders, swinging on monkey bars, and jumping across obstacles. A jungle gym is rife with ways you and your family can get a solid workout without heading to the gym.

Play sports together

Most sports require a certain level of fitness to be able to play. Even if you’re not in ideal shape to play the sport, you can still be active and play with your kids. Soccer doesn’t require much space to be active and chase the ball around to work up a good sweat. If you have a basketball court nearby, get a ball and go out and shoot around. Even chasing a Whiffle ball while playing with a plastic bat can help you stay active if you have enough space. Not only is playing sports a great way for your family to spend time learning a new activity or being active, but sports are also a great way to help teach your kids the importance of fitness.

Have a dance party

Dancing is an outstanding exercise. You don’t have to be a professional or even have rhythm to burn calories while you’re dancing. Turn on some music your family likes and have a dance party in your living room, kitchen, or backyard. The kids can get some wiggles out, and you can enjoy some music while getting some exercise. You’ll love moving and shaking with your kids, and it’s something they’ll remember for years to come.

Do a fun run

It’s not uncommon to be intimidated by a 5k fun run. Although, consider that most people can walk a 5k (3.1 miles) at a leisurely pace without much of a problem. Furthermore, most fun runs are family-friendly and have a fun theme that kids will love. There’s also no rush to complete the course in a specific amount of time or push yourself too hard as the prize is typically a t-shirt or something small for participation.
